Demir Demirkan has been known as a musical trailblazer in his native Turkey where his works have re-shaped the changing music scene in the country. He is an award-winning singer / songwriter, guitar player, producer and film music composer.

Demirkan has recently relocated to New York City and he is working on his first solo US CD release entitled “WAR III”. After his incredible success as the lead guitarist of the first Turkish hard-rock and heavy metal band Pentagram in the early ’90s, which garnered enough popularity in Turkey to be heralded as a pioneer of the genre. Two years later, he was accepted to the famed Musician’s Institute in Los Angeles, studying music theory. He joined a band in Anaheim and, played regular gigs in L.A., further polishing his onstage presence. Demirkan went on to writing, arranging, producing and playing guitar for other major singers and bands in Turkey including, but not limited to Sertab Erener, Sebnem Ferah, Sezen Aksu and Model. These works represented a turning point for the Turkish market while redefining “Turkish rock music.” Turkish record labels, meanwhile, recognized that Demirkan had fueled a stylistic revolution with both Ferah and Erener—advancing the nation’s popular music scene past decades of traditional folk.

In 2000, Demirkan’s career spiked again when record executives offered to record a solo project for Sony. The album was truly a one-man show: He played all guitars, wrote, arranged, co-produced and sang. In 2002, he followed with the solo CD “Dunya Benim.”

Demirkan wrote and composed the hit song “Every Way That I Can” which won him the prestigious Eurovision song contest in 2003 as a songwriter and solidified his rock star status in Turkey. It was Turkey’s first win ever, and the song reached No. 1 in Turkey, Sweden, Greece and the top 10 in Belgium, Austria, Spain, and the U.K. Top 75, selling 400,000 copies. He, then formed his own record label, Simya Muzik, under which Demirkan released a third solo album that reflected his musical roots, with gritty guitars and a hard rock template. “2004 Istanbul” was ultimately released in 11 countries. In 2007, he released fourth album “Ates Yagmurunda Cirilciplak,” and in 2009, “Yolun Yarisi,” both on Simya, to be followed by Ofkem ve Ben (2010), The Other Within (2011), Hatirla (2013), Tam Olmek De Degil (2014), Gunahi Boynuma (2014), Ask Mesk (2015), Sah Damarimdan (2016), The Glass – Original Soundtrack (2017)

Between 2009 and 2013, in addition to his successful solo career as a singer/guitarist, he formed the band Painted on Water, touring both the USA and Europe, and collaborating with other world renowned musicians including Dave Weckl, Trilok Gurtu, Alan Pasqua, Al Dimeola and Kai Eckhart. For the last decade, Demirkan has also been composing orchestral music for numerous hit TV series and films (including Gallipoli, Devrim Arabalari /”Cars of The Revolution”, Zenne Dancer, Kayip Sehir, and Gunesi Beklerken) which have all won him numerous awards at film festivals and awards ceremonies. As a result of his work on the film Gallipoli, Demirkan was invited by The Gallipoli Symphony to take part in composing an epic symphony in Australia, telling the story of the Gallipoli campaign through music.

Demir Demirkan continues his solo performer, songwriter and producer carreers throughout the world, mainly being based in New York.

Demirkan’s latest release WAR III – Awakening is released globally, on all digital platforms in February 2018.
